Brian Head · Duck Creek · Cedar Mountain
The great room of a Jacobs Construction lodge

About

Two firms, one mountain

One family has been building here since the subdivisions were drawn. One team sells more new construction than almost anyone in the state. Putting them together was the obvious move.

The builder

Jacobs Construction

It starts with a honeymoon. The founding family came to Southern Utah to see Bryce Canyon, and left having bought land near Duck Creek.

In the early 1960s they developed some of the first mountain home sites in the Brian Head and Duck Creek subdivisions — the lots people are still building on today. The next generation, a third-generation plumber, joined in the early 1970s and started building custom cabins on them. The company has been building custom homes since 1976.

The family has stayed in the trades ever since, and the fourth generation is working in the business now. Four generations on the same mountain, on ground they helped subdivide.

The company runs full design-build out of Alton, Utah, at the bottom of the Highway 14 grade — custom homes, remodels, additions and outbuildings across Duck Creek, Brian Head, Cedar City and greater Southern Utah. Their own summary of the approach is quality over quantity, and being “people of integrity” before being contractors.

The agents

Griffin Team Real Estate

AJ Griffin is a Southern Utah native, a BYU graduate, and a former school psychologist who has also founded businesses in property management and the service industry.

In 2025 he sold 53 homes as a solo agent, putting him in the top 0.5% of REALTORS® nationwide. Late that year he assembled a team to operate statewide as the Griffin Real Estate Team.

His specialty is new construction. He has partnered with builders across Utah on custom dirt builds in St. George, Cedar City, Utah County and Park City — which is exactly the experience Cedar Mountain buyers need. Most people buying up here aren't from up here. They're evaluating raw land in a market they don't live in, often in a season they aren't seeing it. Knowing what a parcel is worth, what it costs to make buildable, and what it's worth finished is the job.

Why together

The lot and the house are the same decision

Buyers are taught to treat them as two purchases with two sets of professionals. On a mountain, that's a mistake. The slope decides the foundation. The tree cover decides the solar gain. The distance to the nearest transformer can be a five-figure line item you discover after closing.

Every problem worth catching gets caught while walking the lot — if the right two people are walking it. That's the entire thesis here.
